Process Development Scientist – Pivotal and Commercial Synthetics


**What you will do**

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this dynamic role you will support the advancement of our synthetic portfolio as a process chemist and use their synthetic training to develop commercially viable synthetic routes and processes and ensure process performance through process understanding, modeling and characterization. Responsibilities include:

+ Discover and evaluate synthetic routes to identify a commercially viable synthesis of small molecule and hybrid drug substances

+ Discover and develop new reaction methodology to enable access to active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs)

+ Develop robust processes to enable safe and reliable commercial manufacturing

+ Support cGMP manufacturing and technology transfer to enable drug substance clinical supplies

+ Ensure process performance through process understanding, modeling and characterization

+ Deliver regulatory documents and contribute to the Chemistry Manufacturing and Controls (CMC) section of regulatory filings

+ Champion innovative applications of synthetic chemistry, pharmaceutical manufacturing, process analytical technologies (PAT), automation and data analysis

+ Communicate (verbal and in written) scientific concepts and results

+ Work collaboratively with scientists and engineers on multidisciplinary teams

+ Work independently in advancing projects and studies within required timelines.

+ Keep current with field of expertise, participate and advance drug development, technologies, and information services within Amgen


**What we expect of you**

**Basic Qualifications:**

+ Doctorate degree completed by June 2023 OR Master’s degree and 4 years of industry experience in Chemistry OR Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of industry experience in Chemistry

**Preferred Qualifications:**

+ PhD research focusing on methodology/catalysis, total synthesis, physical organic chemistry, bioconjugation, peptide, or oligonucleotide synthesis

+ 2 or more years’ post-doctoral experience in an academic laboratory or pharmaceutical/biotech industry

+ A track record of peer-reviewed publications and research presentations

+ Ability to work in a dynamic environment and influence cross-functional teams to achieve business goals

+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to multitask, effectively plan and follow through on complex projects

+ A research summary included with CV is strongly encouraged
