**Role Summary**
Amgen is seeking an experienced Software Asset Management (SAM) leader to manage and mature the operational execution of our enterprise SAM program.
Reporting to the Sr. Manager of SAM & Application Decommission / Technology Rationalization, this role will lead day-to-day SAM operations, manage two AIN SAM Analysts, and ensure Amgen maintains a compliant, optimized, and audit-ready software licensing posture.
This position plays a critical role in strengthening governance, improving cost transparency, and enabling technology rationalization initiatives across the enterprise.
**Key Responsibilities**
**SAM Program Execution & Governance**
+ Lead operational execution of Amgen’s Software Asset Management program.
+ Establish and maintain standardized processes, controls, and documentation.
+ Ensure alignment of SAM practices with enterprise governance and compliance standards.
**Team Leadership**
+ Directly manage and develop two AIN SAM Analysts.
+ Provide structured onboarding, mentoring, and performance management.
+ Create clear operational cadence (daily/weekly/monthly reporting and KPIs).
**Audit & Compliance Management**
+ Serve as operational lead for software audits and true-up activities.
+ Ensure entitlement-to-deployment reconciliation accuracy.
+ Reduce compliance risk exposure through proactive monitoring.
**License Optimization & Cost Management**
+ Drive license optimization and cost avoidance initiatives.
+ Partner with Procurement and Finance on renewals and forecasting.
+ Support Application Decommission and Technology Rationalization efforts by reclaiming and rationalizing licenses.
**Tooling & Data Integrity**
+ Oversee data accuracy within ServiceNow SAM Pro and related discovery tools.
+ Improve reporting automation and executive dashboards.
+ Develop measurable KPIs and cost savings metrics.
**Cross-Functional Partnership**
+ Collaborate with Procurement, Finance, Legal, InfoSec, Infrastructure, and Application Owners.
+ Provide advisory support on licensing models and usage implications.
+ Support leadership reporting and executive updates.
**Organizational Impact**
+ Strengthens audit readiness and compliance posture.
+ Improves software spend visibility and cost optimization.
+ Enables enterprise technology rationalization and modernization.
+ Builds sustainable SAM processes and reduces key-person risk.
+ Develops internal talent within the AIN program.
**Basic Qualifications**
Bachelor’s OR Master’s degree and 8 years of Information Systems experience
**Required Qualifications**
+ 8 to 12 years of experience in Software Asset Management, IT Asset Management, or IT Vendor Management.
+ Experience managing enterprise software audits (Microsoft, Oracle, SAP, Adobe, etc.).
+ Strong understanding of license models (subscription, SaaS, core-based, user-based).
+ Experience leading operational teams.
+ Financial acumen including forecasting, budgeting, and cost optimization.
+ Experience with ServiceNow SAM Pro or similar SAM tooling.
+ Experience in regulated or GxP environments preferred.
+ Strong stakeholder management and executive communication skills.
