**What you will do**

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will help transform Amgen’s data and AI pipelines and platforms through Cloud Optimization, Test Automation and Production Assurance. The Associate Director is responsible for leading the development, implementation and management of optimization, automation and assurance services in support of enterprise-level data and AI platforms that enable the organization’s data-driven initiatives. This role will closely collaborate with counterparts in US, and oversee the architecture, design, delivery and maintenance of test automation scripts, SRE runbooks, and cloud cost optimization scripts for data platforms and pipelines critical to Amgen’s data and AI ambitions. The Associate Director will work with cross-functional teams, including data engineering teams, platform owners, cloud teams and business collaborators, to ensure sustainable operations, excellent test quality and optimized cloud spend. A key aspect of this role involves extensive experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Databricks, a unified data analytics platform, to optimize big data processing, data integration, and machine learning workflows.

You will be the Enterprise Engineering & Analytics’ India Discipline leader for SRE’s, Automation Engineers and Cloud Engineers with roughly half of your role as management and mentorship and the other half execution as a product manager in a product team.

**Roles & responsibilities**

+ Develop and manage the strategic roadmap for Amgen’s data cloud (AWS, Databricks) cost optimization strategies, data pipeline and data application test automation and SRE Assurance services

+ Lead and mentor an organization of cloud engineers, test automation engineers, SRE’s, and platform specialists, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and innovation.

+ Collaborate and partner to strengthen Cloud FinOps management, data and application quality, software quality, and production reliability & assurance.

+ Oversee the architecture, design, and implementation of data cloud cost optimization scripts, test automation harnesses, and SRE tools and practices.

+ Ensure the data platforms and pipelines are optimized for performance, cost, reliability and security, adhering to industry best practices and regulatory requirements.

+ Ensure the platforms and pipelines stay up to date with the latest advancements in hardware and software updates for performance, cost, efficiency and reliability (AWS instance families, Databricks DBR runtimes, new product features, etc)

+ Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in data platform management, particularly with AWS and Databricks.

**Basic Qualifications:**

+ Master’s degree and 10 to 14 years of Business, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field experience OR

+ Bachelor’s degree and 14 to 16 years of Business, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field experience OR

+ Diploma and 18 to 20 years of Business, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field experience

+ Experience leading a team of 15+ people.

+ 4+ years of experience in managing enterprise scale cloud platforms, test automation engineering or SRE teams for data platforms or applications.

+ Experience with one or more of AWS/Azure, Databricks or Snowflake

+ Strong understanding of Cloud Infrastructure, Data and AI platforms, Data Warehouse, and data pipeline concepts and practices.

+ Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure and data pipeline performance and cost factors, and experience in optimizing costs.

**Preferred Qualifications:**

+ Excellent leadership and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously

+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions and optimize platform cost and performance.

+ High attention to detail is essential with critical thinking ability

+ Outstanding collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical collaborators.
