Amgen’s Therapeutic Discovery organization is seeking an enthusiastic team-oriented Associate Scientist to join the structure-based protein engineering group within Protein Technologies. Protein Technologies is responsible for designing, planning and executing on the generation of key enabling reagents to support early discovery of small and large molecule therapeutics and cutting-edge novel modalities. The structure-based protein engineering group prosecutes on challenging targets and tool antibodies/cytokines requiring structural consideration and engineering. The work involves a blend of structural analysis and protein design as well as experimental protein production and characterization of designed proteins.
The Associate Scientist will work closely with group members to design, clone, express and purify engineered proteins through:
+ Contributing to the design and engineering of novel protein constructs.
+ Cloning large panels of engineered proteins and novel constructs.
+ Expressing and purifying engineered proteins.
Master’s degree and 2 years of related scientific experience
Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of related scientific experience
Broad training in protein biochemistry including:
+ Knowledge of protein structure with hands-on experience in structure visualization
+ Knowledge of general concepts in protein engineering
+ Hands-on experience in DNA construct design and molecular cloning, preferably Golden Gate or Gibson cloning
+ Understanding of common strategies for protein expression and purification
+ Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
+ Desire to be a team player in a cross-functional environment
+ Ability to thrive and adapt in a dynamic environment
