**A Day in the Life**

Reporting to Global VP, Employee Labor Relations and HR Compliance, develops and leads the EMEA Employee Labor Relations strategy, managing a highly complex region in core employee and labor relations services. Lead initiatives and manages resources responsible for ensuring Medtronic delivers a proactive Employee and Labor Relations strategy and plans that reduces company risk, contributes toward a strong, compliant environment and proactively builds a culture of highly engaged employees. Actively participates as a member of the EMEA HR leadership team, with dotted-line reporting to the VP Human Resources – EMEA.

Ensures strong compliance and governance related to employee and labor relations within the region, guiding the EMEA business leaders in respecting, supporting, informing and navigating with European Works Council and through the Employee and Labor relation team with all national and local employee representative bodies. In addition to this, he/she will ensure our organization is fully compliant and develops strong, sustainable partnership with the European Works Council directive and Medtronic European Forum (MEF) agreement. The position will work directly with key business leaders to drive employee and labor relations solutions including forming a strong partnership with Business Leaders, the HR Centers of Expertise (COE’s), Human Resources Business Partners (HRBP’s), as well as the Legal/Compliance Teams.

Performance of Employee and Labor Relations responsibilities directly impacts litigation exposure, employee satisfaction, employee performance by developing, interpreting, and recommending program goals and objectives, policies, and procedures, and courses of action. The incumbent is responsible for deploying/adapting and managing the employee and labor relations activities according to established guidelines and sound administrative practices and in accordance with the Medtronic’s mission, values and goals. The position provides oversight and leadership of the EMEA Region Employee Labor Relations team and governance on Employee Labor Relations global initiatives.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Develops and drives the Employee Labor Relations Strategy and leads the team in the development of work plans that progresses strategy. Designs, plans and leads directly and with the ELR Team labor relations strategy and practices across countries and business in order to maintain a positive labor relations environment in the region, aligning with organizational objectives and business strategies and thus, in close collaboration with senior leadership and HRBPs including ensuring an effective and positive relationship with various Work Councils in EMEA and the Medtronic European Forum (MEF).

 Leads, coaches, develops, and provides guidance to Employee Labor Relations leadership team, creating a strong culture of empowerment, accountability, inclusion and engagement. Champions Diversity and Inclusion efforts both within EMEA and the ELR teams.

 Designs, plans and implements Employee and Labor Relations strategies, programs, policies, and procedures, ensuring consistency of application and alignment with global standards for the EMEA Region. Leads the team in the development, improvement, and execution of efficient, effective employee and labor relations processes in the region and at a country based level; develops consistency and scalability in approach, while honoring local legal requirements.

 Leads the team to drive high quality partnership in core employee and labor relations services, in a timely, effective, efficient, and consistent manner – adhering to global and regional service level agreements and standards (including timely case closure and prioritize of VYC workplace program). Ensures the tracking, analysis and reporting of employee relations data/metrics to establish and drive proactive strategies and action plans to improve organizational effectiveness and address key areas of opportunity.

 Leads labor relations support and guidance, directly or through the ELR team, for organization transformations including restructuring initiatives and mergers and acquisition initiatives. Plays a key leadership role in restructuring activities, including those that impact footprint of our workplace – leads team in ensuring respectful, equitable, and consistent practices and processes, in alignment with local law. Develops workplace strategies to mitigate labor risk, given levels of transformation within organization.

 Guides and support Business Leaders, HRBPs and CoeEs compliance of global EMEA initiatives from a labor relations standpoint including continued communication flow and coordination between the MEF, Senior leadership Team and in-countries HRBPs and ELR team.

 Provides guidance and support to the ELR team on national negotiations with trade unions and workers representatives and local negotiations and work councils, and thus in close partnership with HRBPs.

 Proactively anticipates labor relations needs, activities and requirements in dynamic regulatory/labor market.

 Ensures strong partnership with local business leaders, HRBP’s, Legal and the Corporate Ethics Compliance Team on issues regarding employee relations.

 Provides guidance and advice to the business leaders on LR and ER topics impacted by business strategies and projects.

 Provides coaching and advice to senior business leadership, especially on highly sensitive employee matters. May personally manage executive level, sensitive cases on a regional basis, and be requested to help on global matters. Provides overall leadership to the ER teams in conducting investigations and reporting. Will complete more complex investigations/issues.

 Ensures equitable and consistent interpretation and application of Medtronic policies, practices and procedures that create and maintain an engaged employee environment, help create the desired local culture, and minimize organizational risk/cost.

 Design, adapt and recommend program goals, policies and procedures and courses of action within the region while working in line with the Global ER Coe and corporate philosophy and strategic business decisions.

 Participates in and leads change management activities. Consults with and coaches local business leaders in the same.

 Provides clarification of requirements and methods for identification and resolution of workplace issues.

 Delivers employee relations and engagement solutions consistent with Medtronic’s programs and culture.

 Ensures team provides information and education programs to the workforce about such Employee and Labor Relations related topics such as performance improvement, employment and pay equity, disability accommodations, respect in the workplace, etc. Builds manager skill sets in employee and labor relations competencies.

 Addresses workplace violence and potential workplace violence issues following Medtronic protocol and best practice approaches.

 May sponsor or lead project work to support business or other Human Resources initiatives.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• EDUCATION REQUIRED: Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS) in Human Resource, Organizational Development or related field. Or equivalent significant experience in broad based HR and labor relations

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: 10+ years general Human Resource or related business experience (Master’s degree substitutes for 2 years of experience). People leadership experience required.

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (optional):

• Master’s Degree (BA/BS) in Human Resource, Organizational Development or related field.

• Broad-based generalist or Employees Relations experience with demonstrated success in two or more of the following: business acumen, organization development, training, change management, performance management, career development, employee relations and labor relations.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle extremely sensitive information

• Demonstrated ability to achieve results in a matrix environment across several business units, functions and HR specialty areas

• Experience attracting, developing and retaining top talent and building a high performance culture

• Previous experience interacting with and presenting to senior management in a large, global environment.

• Excellent oral and written communications; effective interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and lead others who may or may not report to this position.

• Results-oriented and a strong sense of urgency; ability to prioritize rapidly and strong problem solving skills; excellent decision making/analysis skills; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

• Proven analytical, strategic, problem identification, problem solving, and negotiation skills.

• Strong project and program management skills and the ability to act independently and responsibly in a fast paced environment.

• Experience Building networks and relationships across functions and geographies

• Basic PC skills; proficient in MS office software products.

• Ability to travel up to 40% time.
