Description

**HOW MIGHT YOU DEFY IMAGINATION?**

Do more with the knowledge you’re working hard to acquire and the passion you already have. At Amgen, our shared mission—to serve patients—drives all that we do. It is key to our becoming one of the world’s leading biotechnology companies, reaching over 10 million patients worldwide. Through this program, you will acquire the valuable hands-on skills and foundational experience to become the professional you are meant to be in your chosen field.

**Grad Intern – R&D (ML for Proteins)**

**Live**

**This could be your everyday**

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. During this program, you will apply innovative machine learning techniques to the prediction of protein properties important for the development of novel drugs.

The Discovery Protein Science team, based in South San Francisco, is responsible for crafting, planning, and completing the generation of key enabling DNA and protein reagents to support discovery of small and large molecule therapeutics and ground breaking novel modalities across Amgen’s therapeutic areas.

+ This internship explores machine learning methods that use both sequence and structural information to predict and design protein properties important for the development of novel drugs.

+ The successful intern will explore various implementations, multitask learning, self-distillation, and evaluate their method on datasets as well as by visual inspection.

+ The final method will then be applied to new incoming data for ongoing testing to improve performance.

+ Well-suited applicants will have a background in machine learning and a strong curiosity about proteins.

+ The intern will gain hands-on experience in protein evaluation and design in an industrial setting and will have the opportunity to interact with various computational and experimental functions within Amgen.

+ Past interns in this group have patented, published, and go on to full time positions at big tech companies.

+ This opportunity will allow the intern to see first-hand how early-stage large molecule drug development is conducted.

+ This internship will be conducted remotely.
