**We are seeking qualified candidates for our Grid Software Summer Internship Program in Power Systems beginning in May 2026. This program is based in Minnetonka, MN but may allow remote work in the US.**
This internship will allow you to work with experts in the Energy industry who have developed the software, products, and services that electrify the world! The goal of this internship is to prepare you to join Team Siemens as a full-time employee once your degree is attained.
**Internship Description:**
+ 12-week full-time summer internship for master’s students consisting of multiple Power Systems related roles within the Grid Software division. Part-time work during the school year may also be available.
+ Potential intern placements are as follows: Transmission and Distribution Technical Consultant or Power Systems Technical Consultant.
**Transmission & Distribution Technical Consultant:**
In this role you will work on exciting topics, including the application of power systems planning principles, simulation and analysis of power system steady state and dynamic behavior, development of mathematical models for reliability assessment of electrical networks, and delivery of on-site technical consulting/training services for both Transmission and Distribution levels. Furthermore, you will:
+ Apply transmission and/or distribution power system model topology changes.
+ Analyze transmission and/or distribution power systems through steady state, short circuit, or transient stability studies.
+ Conduct research on the processes and guidelines for load and generation interconnections to the power grid & new challenges for the future of the grid.
**Power Systems Technical Consultant:**
In this role you will support the delivery of technical solutions and consulting services related to electrical power systems. You will work alongside experienced engineers and consultants to analyze, model, and optimize power systems for industrial, commercial, and utility clients. This internship offers hands-on experience with cutting-edge tools and technologies in energy automation, grid modernization, and digital power systems. Furthermore you will:
+ Assist in the modeling and simulation of electrical power systems using tools such as PowerWorld, PSS®E, PSLF, ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, and/or PSCAD.
+ Support the development of technical proposals, reports, and presentations for clients.
+ Analyze system performance data and contribute to power quality, reliability, and efficiency assessments.
+ Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support project delivery and client engagements.
+ Participate in site visits, data collection, and commissioning activities as needed.
+ Stay current with industry trends, standards, and technologies in power systems and energy automation.
**You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:**
Basic Qualifications
+ Current graduate student pursuing a master’s degree with at least one year remaining in their program. Candidates must not be graduating prior to May 2027.
+ Pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Energy Engineering, or related field.
+ Basic understanding of electrical power systems including generation, transmission, distribution, and protection.
+ Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Familiarity with simulation and analysis tools (e.g. PowerWorld, PSS®E, MATLAB/Simulink, PSLF, ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, or PSCAD).
+ Working knowledge of applications of Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.
+ Ability to work independently as well as effectively as part of multinational and diverse groups.
+ Strong analytical, problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills.
+ Self-starter with good time management skills and the capacity to effectively prioritize a variety of concurrent activities.
+ Coursework or experience in power system analysis, protection, or renewable integration.
+ Exposure to renewable generation, FACTS, and/or smart grid technologies.
+ Programming skills (e.g. Python, C++, VBA) for data analysis or tool customization.
+ Passion for sustainable energy and digital transformation in the power sector.

**You’ll Benefit From**
The hourly pay range for this position is $31.00 – $35.00 per hour, based off of your projected graduation year. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
Additionally, interns for Siemens are eligible to contribute into our 401K program.
