Our Wendell, NC headquarters for Siemens Electrification & Automation delivers energy distribution systems and solutions nationwide. We power today’s grids and invest in future grid innovations. We’re seeking experienced engineers in power transmission and distribution, specializing in substation automation and protection relay engineering, to join our Power Systems Engineering team.
**We are looking for Power Systems Protection Engineers. This position will be based** **in** **Wendell, NC.**
**You’ll make a difference by:**
+ **Configuring, and testing protective relay systems** for complex power systems and substations, ensuring high reliability and system integrity.
+ Completing **Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)** and **Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)** —using your skills in preparing comprehensive test procedures, commissioning scripts, and leading successful project delivery.
+ Having hands-on experience with sophisticated **relay test equipment** such as **Omicron** and **Doble** , with deep knowledge of protection schemes for transmission, distribution, and industrial applications.
+ **Developing and implementing protection and control schemes** that align with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and customer-specific needs.
+ Serving as the **primary technical partner with clients** , providing on-site support, troubleshooting, and commissioning expertise with a focus on performance and customer satisfaction.
**You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:**
**Basic Qualifications:**
+ A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics/Computer Science Engineering.
+ 3 or more years of engineering experience preferably in power systems **protection engineering** field.
+ Ability to read and fully understand DC and AC schematics, three- and one-line diagrams for Medium and/or High Voltage substations systems.
+ Advanced knowledge of at least one of the relay products and associated software from vendors such as Siemens, GE, SEL or ABB
+ Applied knowledge of Power Protection on:
+ Overcurrent / Over-Undervoltage
+ Transformer Differential
+ Motor Protection
+ High and Low Impedance Busbar Differential
+ Generator Protection
+ MV transfer schemes and reverse interlocking schemes.
+ Experience implementing communication protocols such as IEC61850 (MMS/GOOSE/SMV), MODBUS, IEC60870-5-101/103/104, in protection relays.
+ Substation control and protection commissioning experience.
+ Experience in Factory and Site testing of protection relays
+ Flexibility with 50% to 75% travel is expected depending on project assignments and requirements.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Applied knowledge of Power Protection on:
+ High Voltage Line Differential and Distance Protection
+ Generator Protection of large generating units
+ Communication Network Technologies, including Design, Configuration, and troubleshooting of ethernet switches for protection applications such as IEC-61850 Process Bus and GOOSE applications.
+ Advanced Programming skills and experience with programming languages used in protection systems.
