As an intern, you will join a highly collaborative R&D team developing and supporting analytical instruments that integrate acoustics, fluidics, electronics, automation, and software to deliver high‑confidence scientific insights.

In this role, you will be exposed to:

Instrumentation Design & Integration

+ Working with senior system engineers to harden a new type of assay plate reader, taking it from bread board to an optically and mechanically more robust implementation.

+ Designing and building a new instance of the system with an alternate optical scheme.

Fluidics & System Integration

+ Working with senior system engineers to test a new fluidics module intended for our next generation acoustic drop ejection system.

Testing, Experiments & Data Analysis

+ Collecting data from multiple measurement systems as dictated by the question of interest.

+ Analyzing data using Python, MATLAB, and other data science tools.

Documentation & Engineering Support

+ Creating and maintaining engineering documentation including CAD revisions, test reports, and development notes.

+ Presenting findings and recommendations to engineering teams and participate in design reviews.

The essential requirements of the job include :

+ Undergraduate student with a minimum of two years of academic experience, majoring in Engineering Physics, Biomedical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering (graduate students may also apply).

+ Experience with Python.

+ Strong knowledge of MS Office tools (Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint).

+ Some experience integrating new instrumentation or developing measurement methods on existing instruments.

+ Demonstrated teamwork, communication skills, and ability to collaborate effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

+ Experience applying statistical tools (MATLAB, Python, JMP, R, Excel).

+ Familiarity with Solid Works.

+ Familiarity with 3D printing and mechanical prototyping.

+ Some academic understanding of optical design.

+ Familiarity with image processing toolkits.

+ Some academic course work in control systems.

+ Hands on experience with automated lab equipment.

+ Experience documenting engineering work (drawings, test logs, reports).

+ Familiarity with Lab safety expectations.
