We are looking for a hands-on Manufacturing Automation Engineer to support capacity increase projects at Trayer Engineering, a Siemens business. Main responsibility will be defining the need with respect to our growth strategy, selecting the right supplier, following and guiding through the design phase, and leading implementation and commissioning. After launch, taking the lead for stabilizing the equipment and ensuring it runs safely and reliably in production.

Trayer designs and manufactures switchgear solutions, with strong production focus on: Submersible & Padmount Switchgears.

**This position will be based in Livermore, CA, with occasional support in San Leandro, CA**

**You’ll make a difference with:**

**Automation Project Leadership (Strategy-to-Execution)**

+ Identify automation opportunities and help prioritize them with Production, Maintenance, Quality, and EHS.

+ Define clear requirements and success criteria (safety, quality, cycle time, uptime, ergonomics) and translate needs into an executable scope.

+ Coordinate RFQ preparation, review supplier proposals, and support supplier selection in alignment with technical and operational needs.

+ Create and maintain the project plan (timeline, risks, budget, actions) and drive regular follow-ups to keep activities on track.

+ Coordinate design reviews and ensure open items are tracked and closed with internal stakeholders and suppliers.

+ Support and coordinate FAT/SAT, installation, commissioning, ramp-up, and handover to Operations and Maintenance.

+ Ensure delivered solutions comply with EHS and Siemens safety requirements and are properly documented and trained for shop-floor use.

+ Contribute to the site automation roadmap by identifying and sizing opportunities (impact, effort, and feasibility) together with multi-functional teams.

+ Collaborate with global automation functions and subject-matter experts within global Siemens network to align standards, share best practices, and leverage global solutions for local implementation.

**Production Support & Stabilization**

+ Learn Trayer Engineering products and key manufacturing steps to support stable production and good quality.

+ Support troubleshooting and root cause problem solving with Production and Maintenance.

+ Drive improvements to reduce downtime, quality issues, and rework.

**Cross-functional Work**

+ Work closely with Production, Maintenance, Quality, EHS, Supply Chain, and Engineering.

+ Lead small improvement projects and make sure communication is clear across shifts/sites.

**Tooling / Fixture Support (as needed)**

+ Support simple fixture, tool, and workbench ideas/design to improve safety, quality, and speed.

+ Coordinate build and try-out with internal teams or suppliers.

**You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:**

**Basic Qualifications:**

+ Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Industrial, or related).

+ 3 or more years of experience in a manufacturing environment, supporting / leading engineering, automation/equipment or industrialization projects.

+ Experience coordinating external stakeholders for automation/equipment improvements (scope alignment, technical follow-up, and acceptance of delivered solutions).

+ Good shop-floor perspective: willing to go to the line, check issues, and push actions to closure.

+ Ability to read mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.

+ Hands-on exposure to welding automation and related manufacturing operations (fabrication/sheet metal, assembly, material handling, quality testing/inspection); capable of troubleshooting and implementing improvements on the line.

+ Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship

**Preferred Qualifications:**

+ Experience with welding processes and fabrication (e.g., MIG/TIG, fixturing, weld quality considerations).

+ Exposure to welding automation projects (robotic welding cells, basic programming/teach pendant, tooling/fixtures, safety interlocks, commissioning support).

+ Experience in manufacturing of switchgear or similar electrical equipment/enclosures; exposure to Submersible and/or Padmount Switchgear is a plus.

+ Basic knowledge of PLC/HMI concepts (deep programming is not required).

+ 2D/3D CAD experience (for fixture/tool concepts).

+ Lean / continuous improvement experience.

+ Strong ownership: does not wait for others, follows issues until they are solved.

+ High energy and resilience in a fast production environment.

+ Practical problem solver with a “make it work” approach.

+ Good teamwork and clear communication across functions and sites.

+ Ability to balance daily production needs with longer-term project work.
