**We are seeking qualified candidates for our Summer 2026 Smart Buildings Internship Program as a Mechanical Engineering Intern. This role is based in Buffalo Grove, IL.**
**You’ll make an impact by:**
+ Maintaining and performing electrical and mechanical tests on HVAC devices and subcomponents in a Mechanical Test Lab, including recording data, archiving results, and completing test reports.
+ Setting up, programming, and running tests using both standard and bespoke test equipment.
+ Assisting in building and testing prototypes of new or improved designs.
+ Designing, updating, building, and troubleshooting bespoke test infrastructure, fixtures, and equipment (both off-the-shelf and bespoke).
+ Developing and executing preventative maintenance plans on lab equipment, including troubleshooting malfunctions.
+ Performing safety inspections and maintaining safety inspection records.
+ Fabricating and assembling test equipment and test samples as needed.
**You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:**
**Basic Qualifications:**
+ Current undergraduate student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Candidates must not graduate prior to September 2026.
+ Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship.
+ Candidates must be available to work 40 hours per week for the duration of the 10-week internship.
+ Eligible candidates must be located within 50 miles of Buffalo Grove, IL as this role does not provide housing or relocation support.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Proficient in basic computer skills such as word processing, data entry, and e-mail, including Microsoft Office.
+ Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team.
+ Good interpersonal and English communication skills, both written and verbal.
+ Must be able to understand and abide by equipment and lab safety requirements.
+ Ability to perform assigned tests under limited supervision using standard mechanical testing and new procedures.
+ A proactive attitude and willingness to assist engineers at various levels with their tasks and assignments.
