Join our research group, Autonomous Controls and Operations, located in Princeton, NJ, for a 3-6 month internship, and contribute to the development of power system for AI datacenter. Our close contact with different business units in Siemens provides the opportunity to contribute to and gain experience in real industrial applications. During this internship, you will experience the excitement and challenges of industrial research. Key responsibilities:
+ Contribute to industrial research projects on power system simulation and optimization for AI datacenter
+ Implement and validate AC and DC power flow solvers using custom Python solvers
+ Develop and maintain the asset performance library
+ Contribute to the AI GPU load profile engine — including burst event detection, synthetic load profile generation, and workload classification algorithms
+ Collaborate and exchange ideas with experts in the fields of power systems, control, and optimization across Siemens research and business units
Basic Qualifications:
+ **MS or PhD student pursuing a degree** in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related field
+ Programming in Python — including experience working with scientific computing libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, and pandas
+ Foundational knowledge of power systems — including AC/DC circuit analysis, load flow concepts, and basic generator operation principles
+ Familiarity with optimization concepts — linear programming, mixed-integer programming, or energy system dispatch optimization
+ Proficiency in English, both written and verbal
+ Legally residing in the United States of America and hold a valid work permit for the US.
Preferred Qualification:
+ Practical experience in research on power systems simulation or optimization including Optimal power flow (OPF), AC/DC load flow, Unit commitment & dispatch
+ Hands-on experience with power system optimization tools such as pandapower, PyPSA, PYPOWER, GridCal, EGRET
+ Good programming knowledge and experience writing clean, modular, reusable, well-documented code
+ Familiarity with microgrid design, islanded power system operation, or datacenter power infrastructure
+ Experience with machine learning or data-driven load forecasting using scikit-learn, PyTorch, or similar frameworks
+ Experience with software development best practices: version control (Git), unit testing (pytest), and technical documentation
+ Flexibility and adaptability to work in a growing, dynamic, interdisciplinary team of experts across power engineering, software development, and data science
