The Senior Electrical Engineer will be relied upon as a hands-on interdisciplinary design engineer in a fast-paced team that is developing Cepheid’s next generation medical diagnostic instrument platforms, lab automation and production systems. This role works within a team comprised of electrical, mechanical, software and firmware engineers to design and productize molecular diagnostic systems that will be commercialized as key products in Cepheid’s portfolio.

This position is part of the Electrical Engineering Design team and will be in Bangalore, IDC, India. At Cepheid, our vision is to be the leading provider of seamlessly connected diagnostic solutions.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

+ Perform hands-on integration of electro‑mechanical, electro‑optic, and multi‑domain integrated systems to optimize system signal‑to‑noise ratio, fault tolerance, and mechanical/electrical packaging

+ Execute qualification of subassemblies requiring proficiency in computer systems, computer peripherals, wireline and wireless communication interfaces, analog circuit design, and digital system architectures

+ Troubleshoot and resolve software and firmware issues across diverse systems by applying domain expertise in signal conditioning and processing and thermal control subsystems

+ Lead and perform redesign activities based on root‑cause analysis outcomes, including verification, validation, and Change Order creation, submission, and implementation in accordance with engineering change control processes

+ Contribute technical deliverables within cross‑functional engineering environments involving scientists, technical support teams, and hardware/firmware engineers to ensure system-level performance and reliability

The essential requirements of the job include:

+ Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with 4+ years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with 2+ years, or PhD with 1+ year

+ Demonstrated product development and commercialization experience within a regulated risk‑control framework

+ Proficiency in PCBA schematic and layout design using Altium, PADS‑VX, OrCAD/Allegro or equivalent commercial ECAD tools

+ Experience developing mixed‑signal embedded systems including sensor integration, op‑amp–based signal conditioning, ADC/DAC interfaces, and DC‑DC power regulation or motor‑drive circuitry

+ Experience in board‑level design incorporating serial communication interfaces such as SPI, I2C, or USB, with demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve hardware–software system interoperability issues

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

+ Experience in working in diagnostics, medical device, life sciences, or biotechnology industry.

+ Experience designing with FPGAs and microprocessors

+ Working knowledge of regulatory safety and EMC standards and test methods.
