**What will you do**

The Global Category Senior Manager at Amgen will develop and execute global strategies for product categories to drive profitability, optimize costs, improve service levels and add value to the company. You will work closely with stakeholders and manage relationships with suppliers.

**Role Description**

You will serve as the Global Category Manager for Technology Services. You will lead the global category strategy for people-delivered technology services such as IT consulting, system integration, outsourcing, managed services, service desk, and infrastructure support. This excludes software and hardware categories, which are managed separately.

You will develop multi-year category strategies that address business needs while achieving best practice outcomes, building enterprise-wide business partnerships, and activating Procurement resources to drive strategic sourcing results that reduce costs, manage risk, and enable top-line performance.

Your responsibilities will include analyzing internal demand (using Business Partner Management processes), external market data, spend, and service specifications to produce a category plan aligned with business objectives and sourcing initiatives. As a Category Manager, you will play a pivotal role in managing the innovation agenda of Procurement, driving supplier performance, and delivering sustained value across a complex global services landscape.

**Roles & Responsibilities**

**Strategic Contribution**

– Own and evolve the global category strategy for Technology Services, aligned with business goals, with a focus on unlocking value, optimizing supplier relationships, and mitigating risk.

– Partner with Technology stakeholders across R&D, Commercial, and Operations to understand needs and shape procurement strategies that support enterprise priorities in a proactive manner.

– Act as a trusted advisor and thought leader, delivering insights on market trends, supplier capabilities, and best practices tailored to the Technology Services domain.

– Lead the creation of robust, financially grounded business cases (e.g., outsourcing models, total cost of ownership, supplier consolidation) that support procurement decisions and drive measurable impact.

– Stay ahead of market shifts in professional technology services— including evolving delivery models, workforce trends, and service innovation— and translate insights into actionable strategies.

– Design and drive a multi-year sourcing roadmap for Technology Services aligned with Amgen’s broader vision.

– Build relationships with external experts, peer companies, and industry bodies to bring leading practices and innovation into Amgen’s Technology Services sourcing strategy.

– Partner with category managers for consulting and staff augmentation to ensure Amgen take a holistic approach to all external resource driven spend

**Leadership**

– Provide strategic oversight as the global lead for Technology Services sourcing, ensuring alignment between category strategies and evolving business needs.

– Guide and facilitate collaboration across cross-functional teams and regional stakeholders, ensuring strategies meet diverse needs and are implemented effectively.

– Ensure procurement activities are managed in compliance with regulatory, contractual, and operational risk requirements. Partner with Legal, Compliance, Data Privacy, and Cybersecurity teams.

– Collaborate with Strategic Sourcing peers to oversee complex negotiations for Technology Services contracts, including managed services and outsourcing agreements.

– Activate procurement resources toward category priorities while managing expectations with stakeholders.

**Functional Skills**

**Must-Have Skills:**

– Familiarity with procurement platforms (e.g., Ariba), ERP systems, and advanced analytics tools.

– Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills, including the ability to interpret large datasets and generate actionable insights.

– Experience leading large, cross-functional teams and managing complex global projects in a matrixed environment.

**Good-to-Have Skills:**

– Proven record of executive business partnering, leading change, and enterprise-wide sourcing initiatives in Technology Services.

– Deep understanding of category management principles, supplier relationship management, and contract lifecycle management within services.

– Strong financial, legal, and contractual fluency to navigate professional and managed services agreements.

– Track record of driving innovation in service delivery models and internal stakeholder partnerships.

– Ability to proactively identify business needs and craft strategic sourcing solutions across people-delivered technology services.

– Knowledge of regulatory and compliance landscapes in outsourcing and professional services procurement.

– Ability to articulate a forward-looking category vision for Technology Services and rally stakeholders around it.

**Basic Qualifications**

We are all different, yet we all use our unique contributions to serve patients. The Category Management professional we seek is a Senior Manager with these qualifications:

– Doctorate degree and 5 years of Global Strategic Sourcing, Procurement or Commercial (Sales) experience

OR

– Master’s degree and 8 years of Global Strategic Sourcing, Procurement or Commercial (Sales) experience

OR

– Bachelor’s degree and 12 years of Global Strategic Sourcing, Procurement or Commercial (Sales) experience

OR

Additionally:

– 2 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation of resources.
