Senior Manager Packaging Engineering

In this role the Senior Manager Packaging Engineering will support the development and implementation of technical solutions for a variety of packaging engineering initiatives supporting the FDP product portfolio at the Amgen Ohio manufacturing site. The position is a key role in the Combination Product Operations (CPO) group and the candidate must manage and/or apply extensive technical and packaging expertise in the coordination of multiple, sophisticated, non-routine projects involving the planning, design, maintenance and verification of packaging design and processes. This position will also be required to apply advance and diverse engineering principles to more than one area of engineering (design, process, unit operations, equipment, and materials) in complex process characterization, validation, optimization, scale up or manufacturing support projects. This position is expected to frequently spend time on the manufacturing floor via GEMBA walks to engage with manufacturing team and staff as part of continuous improvement in our processes, purpose, and people development.

**Key responsibilities will include.**

+ Lead, inspire and drive a team of experts in Secondary Packaging to enable a new highly automated site to deliver on multiple new lines and improve recently validated production lines.

+ Act as the site technical expert lead for packaging design, materials, and design for manufacturing. The candidate is expected to use technical design and process knowledge and identify the required expertise to resolve process challenges as needed. The candidate will also be responsible for leading the development of packaging and packaging staff at AOH. Integrate with packaging suppliers to improve performance and trouble shooting materials issues applying scientific methods to determine root cause.

+ Collaborate with equipment suppliers to understand the inter dependencies of packaging materials vs equipment performance, document performance-based requirements in specifications (drawings) to drive sustainably higher OEE.

+ Enable site to meeting manufacturing operating assumptions by driving continuous improvement programs within the site and network.

+ Ensure Amgen network inclusion to implement lessons learned and standard processes enabling speed and agility when introducing new materials and process.

+ Develop Packaging Engineering team and ensure team is integrated within AOH site operations.

+ Build a diverse team of various abilities which include SME’s in paper, plastic, adhesives, etc to ensure specification with materials vs equipment align and optimized.

**Operational Excellence**

Responsible for supporting the delivery of productivity, throughput, and general capacity improvements across the AOH site by analyzing, designing, and implementing manufacturing and business process improvements.

**Relationships**

The Senior Manager of Packaging Engineering (Ohio) is expected to leverage and continuously build our network of FDP secondary packaging expertise across the Amgen commercial and clinical operations for product assembly, label, and packaging. The position is expected to leverage this network in support of GMP technical expertise, performance trending, equipment standardization and troubleshooting/process improvements at AOH.

**Basic Qualifications:**

Doctorate degree in Engineering, Physical Sciences or related fields and 2 years of packaging, manufacturing, or other directly related experience

**Or**

Master’s degree in Engineering, Physical Sciences or related fields and 6 years of packaging, manufacturing, or other directly related experience

**Or**

Bachelor’s in Engineering, Physical Sciences or related fields and 8 years of packaging, manufacturing, or other directly related experience

**Or**

Associate’s degree in Engineering, Physical Sciences or related fields and 10 years of packaging, manufacturing, or other directly related experience

**Or**

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of packaging, manufacturing, or other directly related experience

In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have a minimum of 2 years experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation or resources. Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
