The Staff Systems & Failure Investigation Engineer is responsible for developing suppliers, test process analysis, and failure investigation of highly technical and multiple technologies that make up the diagnostic system. Work with the New Product Introduction Team to bring new instruments to maturity in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will quickly learn the modular details of the diagnostic instruments which spans the; electrical, mechanical, software, firmware, and optical disciplines as part of the System.

This position is part of the Manufacturing Engineering team for Instruments and will be located in Penang, Malaysia.

While the role is officially under Pall—the Danaher legal entity operating in Malaysia—it is dedicated exclusively to supporting Cepheid’s business. Like Pall, Cepheid is one of Danaher’s 15+ operating companies.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

+ Collaborate within a matrix organization across hardware, software, biological, and chemical engineering teams to support product development and manufacturing.

+ Develop, implement, and continuously improve functional and system‑level test processes for manufacturing, including data collection for performance monitoring and yield improvement.

+ Partner with design teams to define test parameters, create and maintain test documentation, execute quality assurance procedures, and drive improvements to existing test methods.

+ Oversee contract manufacturing partners for sustaining and new product introduction programs, ensuring appropriate engineering support, technical rigor, and process safety.

+ Manage supplier performance by monitoring test yield, analyzing complex datasets to identify trends and risks, leading regular factory calls, and driving process and product quality improvements.

+ Lead failure investigations from production or field issues, design and execute experiments, document investigations, prepare reports, and coordinate cross‑functional responses to critical supplier and field performance issues.

The essential requirements of the job include:

+ MS in Engineering with 7+ years of experience and deep expertise in global manufacturing operations, including PCBA manufacturing, system integration, and component/module assembly.

+ Strong background in Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement within regulated manufacturing environments governed by cGMP, ISO, and FDA requirements.

+ Advanced experience in statistical analysis, data management, and business intelligence analytics for large, complex manufacturing datasets.

+ Proven ability to lead multiple, time‑critical investigations simultaneously—working independently and cross‑functionally—and deliver concise, executive‑level updates.

+ Thorough understanding of regulatory compliance, safety standards, and environmental guidelines to ensure operational and product compliance.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

+ MS in Engineering with 7+ years of experience and deep expertise in global manufacturing operations, including PCBA manufacturing, system integration, and component/module assembly.

+ Strong background in Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement within regulated manufacturing environments governed by cGMP, ISO, and FDA requirements.

+ Advanced experience in statistical analysis, data management, and business intelligence analytics for large, complex manufacturing datasets.
