The Data Center Automation team has a **Senior Data Center PLC Automation Technician** position open to support mission-critical automation projects throughout the USA. This role is responsible for programming, installing, configuring, troubleshooting, commissioning, and supporting Siemens automation solutions for data center customers, with emphasis on SIMATIC S7 PLC platforms, industrial networking, field devices, building automation integration, and lifecycle service readiness.
This is an outstanding opportunity to work on complex, high-visibility projects supporting hyperscale, colocation, enterprise, and AI-focused data centers. Siemens is helping customers improve resiliency, operational visibility, power and cooling performance, and lifecycle service readiness through integrated automation, electrical, and digital infrastructure solutions.
The ideal candidate combines strong hands-on PLC troubleshooting experience with data center execution discipline, technical awareness of building automation and facility infrastructure systems, and the communication skills needed to support customers and cross-functional project teams in mission-critical environments.
This is a remote position requiring approximately 30-50% travel.
**As a Senior Data Center PLC Automation Technician, you will:**
+ Set standards for automation programming and use of automated programming tools.
+ Write programs and virtual points for approved submittals.
+ Create functional testing documents and flowcharts.
+ Set up virtual and physical testing system to test programs prior to release.
+ Create functional testing check-out sheets to be included in the Specialist’s check-out book.
+ Supports assigned data center automation projects from installation through closeout, including panel checkout, field device verification, PLC troubleshooting, network validation, commissioning support, customer acceptance, and service transition.
+ Performs hands-on troubleshooting of Siemens SIMATIC S7 PLC systems, remote I/O, networked devices, control panels, instrumentation, sensors, actuators, drives, and automation interfaces.
+ Supports commissioning activities including point-to-point checkout, I/O verification, loop testing, functional performance testing, integrated systems testing, FAT, SAT, and customer witness testing.
+ Works with engineering, project management, commissioning specialists, service teams, subcontractors, vendors, and customer representatives to resolve technical issues and maintain project execution momentum.
+ Supports mission-critical automation systems involving chilled water plants, CRAH/CRAC systems, CDUs, generators, UPS systems, switchgear, ATS/STS systems, power distribution, environmental monitoring, and facility infrastructure controls.
+ Assists with PLC program checkout, HMI validation, network diagnostics, alarm testing, trend verification, device communication checks, and interface testing with BMS, EPMS, SCADA, DCIM, and customer platforms.
+ Provides technical support during startup, commissioning, warranty, and early lifecycle service periods as required.
+ Supports continuous improvement of Siemens data center automation delivery standards, commissioning practices, technical documentation, and service handoff processes.
**You will make an impact with these qualifications:**
_Basic Qualifications:_
+ PLC troubleshooting, program navigation, online diagnostics, device status review, I/O verification, and fault recovery support
+ Industrial network troubleshooting including PROFINET, Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP, BACnet/IP, and related facility communication protocols
+ Ability to use diagnostic tools to verify device communication, network status, addressing, module health, and field device operation
+ Understanding of building automation, BMS, EPMS, SCADA, DCIM, HMI, and facility integration concepts
+ Understanding of mechanical and electrical infrastructure including chilled water systems, CRAH/CRAC units, CDUs, generators, UPS systems, switchgear, ATS/STS systems, and power distribution
+ Ability to read and interpret control drawings, electrical schematics, panel layouts, network architectures, sequence documents, specifications, and I/O lists
+ Ability to travel and support field execution in active construction, commissioning, and operational data center environments 30-50%
+ Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship.
_Preferred Qualifications:_
+ Hands-on experience with Siemens SIMATIC S7 PLC platforms, including S7-1500, S7-1200, remote I/O, and associated automation hardware
+ Experience supporting commissioning, startup, point-to-point checkout, loop testing, functional testing, FAT, SAT, and integrated systems testing
+ 4+ years of experience programming HVAC systems and developing HVAC controls strategies
+ Associate degree or technical certificate in Automation, Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, Industrial Controls, Building Automation, HVAC Controls, or a related technical field is preferred
+ Equivalent military, trade, apprenticeship, field service, or hands-on automation experience may be considered.

The pay range for this position is $66,259 – $113,587 annually. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
