The Electrification and Automation (EA) Business Unit offers a comprehensive portfolio of energy distribution systems and solutions across all markets and sales channels. We support today’s power distribution grids while investing in our Future Grids portfolio to help shape the power distribution systems of tomorrow. Our solutions address the growing technical demands of both today’s and future energy infrastructure.
We are seeking an **R&D Simulation Engineer** to join our team, supporting the design and development of power distribution equipment through advanced computational analysis. This role will focus on applying simulation tools to evaluate mechanical, electrical, and multi-physics performance of engineered systems. The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical or electrical engineering fundamentals background and the ability to translate real-world operating conditions into accurate simulation models that inform design decisions. You will work closely with experienced engineers and cross‑functional teams while building a strong foundation for a long‑term engineering career. This position is based in Wendell, NC, and requires, at minimum, a three day per week in-office presence.
**You’ll make a difference by:**
+ Develop, execute, and document simulation models to support product design and validation
+ Perform mechanical, thermal, electrical, and/or multi-physics analyses as required by project scope
+ Translate engineering requirements, load cases, and boundary conditions into accurate simulation setups
+ Interpret simulation results and clearly communicate findings, risks, and design recommendations
+ Collaborate closely with design engineers, test engineers, and project teams to support development milestones
+ Validate simulation results through analytical calculations, test correlation, or benchmark studies
+ Prepare technical reports, presentations, and summaries for engineering and management audiences
+ Support continuous improvement of simulation methods, workflows, and best practices
**You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:**
**Basic Qualifications:**
+ Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
+ Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals (statics, dynamics, heat transfer, electromagnetics, or related fields)
+ Experience with engineering CAD tools such as Siemens NX, SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, etc.
+ Strong analytical thinking and problem‑solving skills
+ Effective written and verbal communication skills
+ Ability to be on-site at the Wendell, NC location a minimum of 3 days per week.
+ Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
+ Experience with FEA and CFD simulation tools, such as:
+ Structural & Multiphysics Simulation: NX Nastran, Ansys Mechanical
+ Thermal & CFD Simulation: Siemens STAR‑CCM+, Ansys Fluent
+ Electromagnetic Simulation: NX Magnetics, Ansys Maxwell, CST Studio Suite
+ Experience interpreting simulation results and translating findings into clear engineering recommendations
+ Experience supporting industrial or product-based engineering development
+ Familiarity with validation techniques and test correlation
+ Programming or scripting experience (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for postprocessing or automation
+ Experience working in regulated or standards driven engineering environments
