Siemens Electrification & Automation (EA) is growing steadily and seeking a motivated, early career **Applications Engineer – Protection and Automation Proposals** to join our Proposal and Engineering team. This role is ideal for emerging engineers eager to develop technical expertise in power systems, protection and control, automation, and Microgrid solutions. You will support proposal development, documentation, and technical solution configuration for customers across the USA, while mastering Siemens tools, standards, and engineering methods.

This **Applications Engineer** position works closely with senior Applications Engineers, Sales, and cross-function collaborators. You’ll learn to build customer solutions, evaluate specifications, prepare technical proposals, and gain a deep understanding of EA products, systems, and services. Comprehensive training and mentorship will be provided to support your professional and technical growth.

**This hybrid position is based at our corporate headquarters in Wendell, NC** . Located in the heart of the Research Triangle about 20 minutes east of Raleigh, Wendell offers top-rated schools, a mild climate, easy access to mountains and coast, and a cost of living that allows our compensation to go further.

**You’ll make a difference by:**

+ Reviewing customer specifications, technical requirements, and product documentation under senior guidance.

+ Supporting the development of technical and commercial proposals for automation, protection, and power distribution systems.

+ Assisting in preparing panel layouts, Bills of Material (BOM), and basic system architectures.

+ Helping collect technical data, drawings, and documentation for project quotations and internal approvals.

+ Learning to interpret and apply applicable industry standards (IEEE, IEC, UL, NEMA) for electrical systems and products.

+ Participating in internal meetings with Engineering, Sales, and Project Management to gain full project lifecycle exposure.

+ Supporting updates to templates, tools, and documentation to improve proposal efficiency and standardization.

+ Developing proficiency in the Siemens EA portfolio, including software tools for sizing, configuration, and proposal development.

+ Building a foundation in technical communication through customer-facing documents, training, and workshops.

+ Demonstrating continuous learning, curiosity, and proactive engagement.

**Basic Qualifications:**

+ Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or a similar field from an accredited university.

+ 0-1 year of professional work experience (internship, co-op, or part-time engineering roles may count towards this qualification).

+ Understanding of Electrical Power System fundamentals (Generation, Transmission, and/or Distribution).

+ Basic understanding of Single Line Diagrams and ability to identify major substation equipment.

+ Willingness to travel up to 20%.

+ Willingness to relocate to the greater Raleigh, NC area.

+ Legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future.

**Preferred Qualifications:**

+ Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment.

+ Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and meet target timelines.

+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

+ Strong written and verbal communication.

+ Introductory understanding of SCADA systems and HMI concepts, with awareness of common communication protocols (DNP3, IEC 61850, Modbus).

+ Knowledge and experience evaluating Single Line Drawings, schematics, relay protection & control schemes, communication network diagrams, and related engineering documents.

+ Experience with Electrical and 2D Layout drawing tools such as AutoCAD, Visio, etc.

+ Ability to read wiring diagrams and understand I/O mapping between devices, relays, and RTUs/PLCs.

+ Exposure to protective relay configuration software (e.g., DIGSI, SEL AcSELerator, PCM600).

+ Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, UL, and NEMA standards for power distribution applications, especially Protection and Automation.

+ Familiarity with industry standards such as IEEE C37 series, ANSI device functions, or IEC 61850.

+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
