**Scientific Associate Director – Computational Medicinal Chemistry**

Amgen is seeking an experienced and accomplished Computational Medicinal Chemist to join our drug discovery efforts in the Computational Chemistry group, which is part of the broader Computational and Data Sciences team at Amgen Research. This position is a senior scientific role with significant leadership responsibilities and opportunities.

**In this vital role, you will:**

+ Participate on multiple interdisciplinary project teams and play a key role in defining project strategy and achieving project milestones

+ Apply structure-based, ligand-based and machine learning/generative AI design to advance drug discovery projects

+ Coordinate collaborations with external partners by joining joint team meetings, enabling seamless data transfer and platform deployment

+ Deploy a retrosynthetic platform to maximize chemical tractability of designed molecules. Work cross-functional to prioritize and coordinate compound synthesis at CROs and to optimize compound acquisition and internalization

+ Take an active leadership role in guiding new AI/ML technology developments and new protein degradation workflows

+ Contribute to guide infrastructure improvements, software portfolio recommendations and prospecting of relevant cutting-edge computational technologies/companies

The location for this position is either at our Thousand Oaks (CA) site or remote

**Basic Qualifications:**

Ph.D. degree and 4 years of experience in computational or medicinal chemistry

**Or**

Master’s degree and 7 years of experience in computational or medicinal chemistry

**Or**

Bachelor’s degree and 9 years of experience in computational or medicinal chemistry

**Preferred Qualifications:**

+ PhD. in Computational Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry or related field

+ Proven accomplishments supporting drug design projects with 5+ years of relevant experience in the biopharmaceutical industry

+ Experience leading cross-functional teams in a matrix environment

+ Experience in the field of computational chemistry in an industry setting and good knowledge of related and adjacent disciplinary areas

+ Experience in the field of medicinal chemistry in an industry setting with the ability to deploy a retrosynthetic platform to improve chemical tractability

+ Thorough understanding of the drug discovery process from lead screening to late-stage optimization and know how to enhance the impact of computational modeling

+ Good external publication record, excellent communication and organizational skills and demonstrated ability as a team leader

+ Experience managing people is desirable

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
