Description

**HOW MIGHT YOU DEFY IMAGINATION?**

You’ve worked hard to become the professional you are today and are now ready to take the next step in your career. How will you put your skills, experience and passion to work toward your goals? At Amgen, our shared mission—to serve patients—drives all that we do. It is key to our becoming one of the world’s leading biotechnology companies, reaching over 10 million patients worldwide. Come do your best work alongside other innovative, driven professionals in this meaningful role.

**Postdoctoral Fellow – Lead Discovery & Characterization**

**Live**

**What you will do**

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will gain access to Amgen’s ground breaking technologies and innovation and are expected to make scientific contributions to the field. This includes presenting at scientific conferences and publishing their work. Postdocs will be part of the broader R&D Postdoc Program, focusing on training the next generation of industry scientists. An overwhelming majority of our postdocs advance their careers in the industry at leading pharma and biotech companies, including many at Amgen.

The research direction will be in the area of Targeted Protein Degradation, with a specific focus on molecular glues. The postdoc will apply NMR spectroscopy to create novel methodologies for the discovery and development of molecular glue molecules, taking a multi-disciplinary approach that combines computational methods and experimental techniques.

**The successful candidate will:**

+ Express and purify stable-isotope labeled proteins in quantities required for NMR structural studies,

+ contribute to the design and execution of fragment screening campaigns to support hit identification, validation, compound progression and mechanism of action studies,

+ design, implement and complete NMR experiments to enable structural studies on protein-protein interactions modulated by small molecules,

+ use NMR data as input into software packages for the purposes of 3-D structure determination/improved prediction.

The approach will involve, but is not limited to, comprehensive structural assessment of targets, including protein dynamics, fragment-based lead discovery, and characterization of target-ligase complexes. Successful applicants will hold a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, Biophysics, or a related field, and have a firm knowledge of NMR spectroscopy, as well as wet-lab experience. Previous experience in molecular modeling and simulation is an advantage.

Amgen’s biophysical NMR facilities are equipped with Bruker 500, 600, and 800 MHz instruments with cryoprobes and SampleJet’s. Other Biohysical methods that can be employed include SPR, ITC, DSF and MS capabilities. This role is a great opportunity to join the fast-growing field of Induced Protein Proximity applied to drug discovery. The position provides opportunities to to develop novel approaches and collaborate effectively in cross-functional project team settings with other biophysicists, structural biologists, chemists, and biologists.

The postdoctoral position is intended for a 3 year term, with the option of an additional year.
