**Vice President, Clinical Development – Rare Disease**

**What you will do**

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital VP role, you will lead the late clinical development strategy, planning and decision making for the Rare Disease therapeutic area (TA) as well as collaborate closely with counterpart leaders in Research, Early Development, Medical Affairs and Commercial functions to advance the Rare Disease pipeline and champion and contribute to business development opportunities in the Rare Disease area.

You are responsible for prioritization of staff engagement and development activities while actively pursuing diversity in thought as well as inclusion of people with different backgrounds within the TA. This position will report to Global Development VP of Rare Disease.

**Responsibilities**

+ Provide strategic, scientific and people leadership for the Rare Disease development pipeline and marketed products

+ Oversee late clinical programs within the Rare Disease area, defining the portfolio vision and strategy and mobilizing the team to execute against it

+ Serve as a senior advisor or executive sponsor for functional, cross-functional and/or corporate initiatives

+ Critically evaluate business development opportunities

+ Establish and nurture key strategic partnerships including public-private and private-private

+ Chair the TA Technical Review Committee for the disease area, driving cross-functional advice and providing approval for the scientific design of clinical trials

+ Create and maintain highly motivated development teams through leadership, people management and coaching with a focus on career development

+ Ensures effective performance management of direct reports through comprehensive goal setting, regular performance reviews, as well as direct and timely feedback

+ Foster a culture that attracts and retains the best talent

+ Support staff diversity, inclusion and belonging

+ Management of budget, processes, and people

+ Coaching and mentoring and developing scientific talent

**Basic Qualifications**

+ MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school AND

+ Five years of industry or academic research AND

+ 6 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ MD plus accredited residency in relevant sub-specialty, board certified or equivalent

+ Ten (10) or more years of clinical research experience and/or basic science research combined with clinical teaching and patient care activities

+ Medical knowledge within

+ Clinical research experience in the biopharmaceutical industry (biotech, pharmaceutical or CRO company)

+ Proven ability to lead, manage, and motivate others in a complex, multi-functional matrix environment

+ Highly skilled in leveraging diverse thoughts and perspectives in clinical strategy development

+ In-depth understanding of the scientific method and clinical applications based on medical, scientific, and practical rationale

+ In-depth understanding of and proven success in how to conceptualize, design, and conduct complex, global clinical trials

+ Understanding of regulatory agency organization, guidelines, and practices and ability to negotiate with these groups

+ Knowledge of Good Clinical Practices (GCP), FDA regulations and guidelines, and applicable international regulatory requirements

+ Understanding of new drug commercialization and business practices

+ Understanding of resourcing and budgeting

+ Committed to actively bringing in diverse staff and ensuring their perspectives are included in work culture

+ Ability to effectively present ideas and document complex medical/clinical concepts in both written and oral communication

+ Demonstrated ability to organize and lead expert Clinical Research Advisory Panels

+ History of solving problems while exhibiting superior judgment and a balanced, realistic understanding of issues

The annual base salary range for VP level opportunities in the US is $307,500 – $512,500.
